An accomplished aviation professional who utilised his leadership and communications skills as Chief NATO Liaison Officer in Croatia and Bosnia - daily facing the worlds Media and relaying the facts in what was NATO’s first operation since the Cold War. He also served as Operations Director in Sarajevo and Commander for Support in Zagreb.
As Supreme HQ Allied Powers Europe media spokesman and Director of Information for Kosovo operations David became a regular feature on TV News and his clear and concise delivery of the facts earned him an international reputation of straight talking, trust and respect.
CAREER TRIGGER POINTS
David has accumulated 4.000 flying hours on fast-jet operational aircraft and became a qualified instructor for electronic warfare, weapons and combat survival. He was awarded the distinguished Air Force Cross.
In the MOO he was responsible for new air-to-surface guided weapons which required unravelling the vagaries of international negotiating and working alongside the Defence Industries.
At Strike Command, he was the Project Officer for bringing the Tornado into service. He later became Director of Officer Training at RAF College, Cranwell, Station Commander RAF Finningley and Director of Intelligence Operations in the Old War Office.David’s special skills were also recognized when he was appointed Chief of Special Weapons Branch, responsible for Weapons of Mass Destruction in Supreme HQ Allied Powers Europe.
David Wilby has successfully combined his aviation career with a sound understanding of global business.He has been placed in positions of extensive Command that span the military and the world of corporate business - first gained when he became the Strike Command Project Officer responsible for bringing the Tornado aircraft into operational service.
He also held posts as Chief Executive responsible for annual budgets of £100 million and up to 3,000 personnel.Head hunted to join BAe Systems in 2000 as a Military Advisor, he went on to become Senior Military Advisor for the Avionics Group (now SELEX Galileo-a Finmeccanica Company).
